La Petatera and Fiestas de la Villa will be promoted in the United States – El Occidental

VILLA DE ÁLVAREZ, Colima (OEM-Informex). – This coming Saturday, the Villa de Alvarez City Council and the Under Secretary of Tourism will be promoting La Petatera in Los Angeles, California, United States.

The head of tourism in Colima, Jorge Padilla, stated that they will meet in Casa Colima, immigrant clubs promoting La Pitatera Festival and Villa de Alvarez Charrutorin.

In this activity, Colima will also be promoted in the Mexican Consulate and with the US media, as it is a cultural-tourist attraction.

La Petatera is a unique bullring made of wood, ropes and mats that serves as the venue for the Shepherd’s Festival in a municipality on the outskirts of the capital, Colima.

The arena has been awarded the National Art Monument category, completely handmade with the largest arena: 60 meters in diameter and six meters in height, it is assembled by more than 100 people and can accommodate about seven thousand spectators.

The ephemeral architectural work includes 70 families, and uses about two thousand petits, with sticks and ropes making up its entire structure.

Construction begins in December and ends on February 3 to be delivered two days later and Masses will be held in honor of San Felipe de Jesús, the patron saint of festivities.
