And this strike deepens the crisis in what is already called the winter of “discontent” due to the wave of strikes in many sectors, which are demanding higher salaries due to the high cost of living.

Border employees, members of the Public and Commercial Services (PCS) union, will continue this strike until the next 31st, except December 27th, after rejecting an offer of a 2% salary increase, as that union requested a 10% increase.

This strike will mainly affect passengers arriving at major airports in the country, such as Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester, Glasgow, Cardiff and the port of Newhaven, in the southeast of England, which the British Conservative government has warned of. Long lines to pass through border controls.

Soldiers and volunteers have been trained to handle passport controls in order to reduce the impact this forceful measure could have at airports.

The general secretary of the Communist Party of Pakistan trade union, Mark Sirotka, on Friday predicted more strikes in the sector unless the government begins negotiations to improve wages.

“Like many workers, our members are dealing with a cost-of-living crisis. They are desperate,” Sirotka told British media.

“I think next January, what you will see is a significant escalation of this measure in the civil service and in the rest of our economy unless the government sits down to negotiate,” he added.

Postal workers also support the strike today and tomorrow, while the railways also continue today with their strong actions demanding better wages.
