The agents were called at 9:35pm (local time and GMT) because “a large number of people had tried to force entry” into the O2 Academy room, in the Brixton borough, south of the capital, where Nigerian singer Afrobeat was performing.
Scotland Yard, which had previously reported four serious cases, said eight people had been taken to hospital and three remained in a “critical” condition.
According to police officer Colin Wingrove, about 4,000 people attended the party.
According to the Daily Mirror, it was canceled midway through, due to boos from spectators, with the organizers announcing that “3,000 people had locked the doors from the outside”.
They added, according to the same source, “for security reasons, the show must be terminated.”
Asake, 27, later expressed his thoughts for the victims on Instagram, saying he prayed that they would get better “as soon as possible.” Prior to his concerts in London, he had posted messages on Twitter asking people without a ticket not to go to the O2 Academy.
