The 22nd Summit in the Cuban capital will celebrate the 18th anniversary of the creation of the Regional Mechanism, as well as allow an exchange of views on developments and challenges in the ALBA-TCP, for the benefit of Member States.

On December 14, 2004, the then President of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez. Cuba, Fidel Castro, signed an agreement in response to the Free Trade Area of ​​the Americas (FTAA), promoted by the United States and finally rejected by Latin America in Mar del Plata, Argentina, in 2005.

Since its establishment until now, ALBA-TCP maintains solidarity, economic integration, social justice and cooperation as basic principles for its course of action and for relations between member states.

It is made up of 10 countries: Venezuela, Bolivia, Nicaragua, Dominica, Antigua and Barbuda, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Saint Lucia, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Grenada, and Cuba.
