The ruling party demands an effective restoration of peace in Ethiopia

ADDIS ABABA, DECEMBER 8 (PRENSA LATENA) The ruling Prosperity Party has demanded the effective implementation of the peace agreement signed last November to restore constitutional order and peace in Tigray, Ethiopia’s northern region, it was announced today.

After four days of discussions and analysis, the members of the Central Committee of the People’s Party concluded that it is impossible to develop social programs and national economic strategies, without a sustainable balance in that country.

This is what appeared in the organization’s report, unveiled on Thursday, which acknowledges that “resolute efforts are being made” to duly implement the federal government’s agreement with the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF).

According to the report, the board members insisted that the cessation of hostilities is crucial to ensuring stability in nation-building, and therefore they are committed to working towards its successful implementation.

They also agreed that “reaching an agreement with the TPLF was complex and attests to the dominance and importance of Ethiopia as a country,” and urged the party to contribute to efforts to fully comply with the agreement.

On the other hand, the communication confirms, they accused the Shin group of rejecting truce measures in the territory and launching “several attacks against innocent people from time to time.”

Accordingly, they asked the government to take legal measures soon to confront the criminal activity of the organization, which declared terrorism during a session of the Assembly of the Representatives of the People (Parliament) in May 2021.

A faction formed within the Oromo Liberation Front, though allegedly operating independently since 2018, Shin is formally accused of massacres, carrying out acts of vandalism, destroying infrastructure and other crimes.
