Cuban athletics add more victories in the winter season

Two more victories, this time from the championships of Michael Masso and Andy Diaz, were added on Saturday by Cuban Athletics at the Elite Meeting in Metz, France, as a continuation of the presentations in Indoor tour of athletics 2021.

Masso once again surpassed eight meters in the long jump, now with a height of 8.02 meters, and confirmed that the start recorded just over a week ago in Karlsruhe (Germany) was no accident, as he accompanied his partner Juan Miguel Echevarria for the second time.

In the French town, he set the winning record on his third attempt after a foul on the first exit and 8.01 meters on the second attempt. He then abandoned the next three jumps, possibly as part of the strategy designed by his coach Daniel Osorio.

Greek Miltiades Tentoglou, the King of Europe in the open air (2018) and indoors (2019), also reached 8.02 meters, but he was falling behind the Cuban because his second best jump was less (7.99).

Local Yann Randrianasolo completed the coronation podium, which was only 7.55 meters away from the leaders.

Andy Diaz’s success in the hat-trick was achieved with a personal best number in indoor halls at 17.06 m, scoring from his first jump. With 16.99 and 15.89 and then complete the sequence.

As a good start, the performance of the Pan American tan in the Lima 2019 can be considered, since there is little experience with this type of scenario in closed installations.

The awards were completed with Italian Tobia Bocchia (16.56) and Portuguese Tiago Pereira (16.08).

Jordan Diaz is the other Cuban to announce its introduction on Saturday, but it didn’t finally make an appearance among the painters.

The next Cuban parade at the Hauts de Pas de Calais Rally in Levin, also on French soil, is scheduled for the ninth day, and the main attraction will be to enjoy Juan Miguel Echevarria again.

The current indoor world champion won in Karlsruhe by 8.18 meters, a record which could improve this time when he is also competing alongside Masu and Lester Liscay.
