Norwegian agricultural technology company Saga Robotics has raised £8.5 million (€9.8 million) to accelerate its growth in the UK’s strawberry sector. The move will also accelerate international growth, expanding the existing roster of the United States, Italy and Norway.
Since 2014, the company has been working on the Thorvald autonomous agricultural robot, which enables smarter farming by performing multiple IPM operations simultaneously. The robot helps strawberry growers perform high-frequency and time-consuming work, providing higher yields, lower CO2 emissions, and more sustainable production of strawberries and food.
Through a special assignment, a new shareholder, Norwegian industrial investment company Aker, has invested 4.3 million pounds (4.96 million euros) for a 13.5% stake in the company. Aker joins existing shareholders, Nysnø Climate Investment, Rabo Food and Ag Innovation Fund, and Hatteland, who have invested a total of £3.4 million (€3.9 million), and together they currently own 31.2% of Saga Robotics. The other contributors are London-based Cibus Enterprise Fund.
