Another star Cuban basketball player settles in the United States

Cuban basketball star and organizing base of the Toros de Artemisa Island Super League, Osmel Oliva, has joined the current wave of athletes immigrating to the United States and settled in Las Vegas since last August.

according to Oliva photos on her Instagram, Athlete with a height of 1.78 meters was born on April 24, 1987, lives in that North American city with his son and wife. “Family time is the best thing in the world. I love you,” he wrote recently on the social network.

Oliva has been an almost constant part of the last Cuban basketball teams at international events. Havanan made his debut in 2010 in the Antilles national team during Centrobasket. Four years later he did it again for Central America in Veracruz in Mexico.

As for clubs, Oliva joined the Capitalinos team, which he graduated in 2010. He later played for other teams such as Artemisa, Santiago de Cuba, Pinar del Rio and Havana, before the last political-administrative division of the island.

In 2017, he was assigned to El Salvador and played for several teams in the major basketball tournament such as El Rapido La Unión, AD Isidro Metapán, Águila San Miguel BC and Brujos de Izalco. Three years later he signed to the Caribbean coast of the Nicaraguan Super League. In 2021 he wore the National University of Engineering T-shirt.

His last team, before settling in the United States, was the Ghosts of San Vicente in El Salvador. He had previously been called to represent Cuba at the World Cup window in February of this year.

In June of this year, two other Cuban players renounced their contracts in El Salvador and fled to the United States. Euclides Miranda and Anai Garcia traveled to El Salvador on that date to fulfill a three-month contract with the Monseñor Romero Municipal League, which belongs to that country’s leading women’s basketball league.

Also at the end of June this year, the famous Cuban basketball player Neslier Raúl Abreu left the national team with whom he traveled to Mexico to participate in the World Cup window. A few days later, he was seen with his family in Miami.
