UK extends missile defense system deployment in Poland ahead of Ukraine invasion

MADRID, October 4 (European press) –

The British authorities announced, on Tuesday, their intention to extend the deployment of the “Sky Saber” missile defense system in Poland in the context of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

This was confirmed by the British Defense Minister, Ben Wallace, during a visit to the Polish city of Zamosc to supervise a Polish military unit, according to information received from the TVB network.

Wallace said, who did not specify how long this latest publication will take.

In July, the Polish Minister of Defense, Mariusz Blaszczak, announced that the United Kingdom would deploy this system on its territory. The United Kingdom deploys soldiers to the region as part of the NATO contingent, which includes around 700 soldiers.

The British Army incorporated the new Sky Saber anti-aircraft system at the end of 2021 to replace the Rapier missiles in use since the 1970s.

On the same Tuesday, the President of Poland, Andrzej Duda, urged NATO countries to increase production of weapons for their eventual delivery to Ukraine. “They need weapons more than ever, and we are sending them, but they are still few. Their production must be increased on both sides of the Atlantic,” Duda said during the Security Forum in Warsaw.

“Every hour we are not producing enough weapons to help Ukraine, and at the same time to counter the threats emanating from Russia,” Duda insisted.
