Millions of Britons are being forced to take a second job to make ends meet amid the rising cost of living, the BBC reported on Tuesday 27 September.
British media cited a report by Royal London Insurance, which polled 4,000 British adults.
The cost of living in the country is rising rapidly due to high inflation and high energy prices.
The study found that 16% of those surveyed got a second job to pay for the rising cost of living: around 5.2 million if this ratio was applied across the UK. Another 30% said they would need to do so soon.

The report emphasized that even this would not be an option for many, as 28% of full-time employees actually work more than 48 hours a week. Of those, 20% work more than 56 hours per week.
The results of the survey indicated that nearly a third of the people surveyed, i.e. 31%, said they had to borrow or use bank overdrafts to cover their expenses, which also indicated that 64% of respondents said they were overwhelmed.
“We know many families started to control their spending six months ago when costs started to rise, but as bills continue to rise, the upcoming winter could be incredibly harsh,” said Sarah Pennels, a specialist in consumer finance at Royal London. .

“While the government’s announcement of a freeze on energy prices will provide relief, the escalation of costs across the board is deeply concerning as only one in ten adults is confident that they will be able to cope financially,” he added.
