Food sovereignty in light of Bolivia at the United Nations

“We had a meeting with the Secretary-General of ONU_es, antonoguterres, to whom we raised the need to prioritize the global food sovereignty program to effectively confront the food crisis arising from the epidemic and armed conflict,” Ars wrote in his Twitter account.

The talk took place on the sidelines of the seventy-seventh session of the United Nations General Assembly at its headquarters in New York.

The multilateral forum, which brings together representatives of 193 countries including foreign ministers and heads of state and government, focuses its discussion on the current global scenario made more rare by NATO’s expansion to the east and Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine.

Likewise, in the whirlpool of debates is the impossibility of poor countries getting food and fertilizer as a result of the thousands of sanctions the West has imposed on Moscow.

On Tuesday, the Bolivian president held a meeting with his Iranian counterpart Ibrahim Raisi, in which they analyzed the bilateral strategic plan, which includes issues of health, agriculture, culture, education, space agency and communications.

Arce commented in a tweet on Twitter, “We are evaluating the promotion of trade exchange in post-pandemic reconstruction and a strategic plan that includes health, culture, education, space agency, agriculture and communications.”

Bolivia and Iran established diplomatic relations on September 8, 2007, during the presidency of Evo Morales and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, respectively.

After the November 2019 coup, the de facto government led by Jeanine Anez cut ties with Iran and closed the embassy of the high-profile country in Tehran.

The restoration of democracy with the electoral victory of Ars and Vice President, David Chuquihuanca, in 2020, made it possible to restore diplomatic relations, with the dispatch of Iran’s Foreign Minister, Javad Zarif, to the inauguration in La Paz.
