An investigation by two NGOs from the UK and Palestine concluded that Shireen Abu Akleh’s killing was premeditated.

Ramallah, Palestine

A new investigation by two British and Palestinian NGOs has concluded that journalist Shireen Abu Oqla was deliberately killed by Israeli forces.

The London-based multidisciplinary group Forensic Architecture and the Palestinian human rights organization Al-Haq said the results of their joint investigation were presented this Tuesday, September 20, to the International Criminal Court (ICC) by the Abu Akleh family.

“The investigation was a scientific and documented study that concluded that the killing was deliberately carried out by the Israeli army,” Shaun Jabarin, director of Al-Haq Rights Group, told Anadolu Agency.

The activist added that the Forensic Engineering Unit analyzed the area in which the journalist was killed and collected all relevant documents, photos and videos.

The investigation carefully examined the shooting angle of the Israeli sniper, and concluded that the Israeli sniper clearly knew that there were journalists in the area.

The case brought by the Abu Okla family to the International Criminal Court was supported by the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate and the International Federation of Journalists.

Abu Akleh, 51, a Palestinian-American journalist, was killed on May 11. The Palestinian Ministry of Health said that he was shot in the head while covering an Israeli military raid in the city of Jenin in the occupied West Bank.

Various international media agencies, including Al Jazeera, where his mind worked, CNN, The Associated Press, The Washington Post and The New York Times, conducted their own investigations and also concluded that the journalist was killed by an Israeli bullet.
