Brazil. – Cassex Raoni Metoacter and Almir Suroy requested the International Criminal Court to investigate Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro on environmental violations that amount to crimes against humanity.
French lawyer William Bourdon, known for defending international human rights issues, assisted with the 50-page complaint by the two original leaders.
This is the fifth indictment against Bolsonaro at the International Criminal Court, based in the Netherlands, and the next step will be a preliminary analysis by the prosecutor’s office for that court to decide whether the investigation should be permitted.
According to Burdon, the case could help recognize genocide among the international abuses ruled by the court, which has the jurisdiction to analyze war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide.
