Latin Americans stand in solidarity with Cuba

HAVANA, Aug. 2 (Prinsa Latina) Women and men from Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Panama, Peru and the Dominican Republic formed the 27th Latin American and Caribbean Brigade of Volunteerism and Solidarity with Cuba.

This group, made up of 80 people, opened Monday at the Giulio Antonio Mella International Camp, located in the fields of western Artemisa Province.

Until August 14, the members of the brigade will engage in fruitful work to express their support for the Cuban people and will also visit economic, historical and cultural centers and participate in a solidarity meeting on the occasion of the 96th anniversary of the birth of the leader of the Cuban Revolution. , Fede Castro.

Upon the establishment of the brigade, Fernando Gonzalez, President of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with Peoples (ICAP), highlighted the resumption of the activities of these solidarity groups that were suspended for two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

He noted that the achievements of scientists in Cuba and the hard work of the entire health system made it possible to control this disease despite the lack of material resources, largely due to the effects of the US blockade on the island.

He also stressed that even in the midst of the difficulties caused by this economic aggression and the effects of the global crisis exacerbated by the pandemic, the Cuban government and people maintain the building of a society based on social justice as their main goal.

He added that during their visit to Cuba, the members of this brigade will be able to realize the impact of the blockade on the lives of the population, as well as appreciate the will of the majority to resist and win.

The head of the institute thanked the support of humble people from all over the world who sympathize with the cause of the Cuban people, according to a report by the Cuban News Agency.

At the inception of the Act, representatives of the 27th Latin American and Caribbean Brigade of Volunteerism and Solidarity with Cuba placed a floral display on a bust of Julio Antonio Mella, a symbolic university student leader and founder of Cuba’s first communist party.
