Lula plans to forge political alliances in Brazil in Rio

At the event in Cinelandia, the common name for the district in downtown Rio de Janeiro, Lula will be accompanied by former Governor Geraldo Alcumen, the candidate for Labor Party (PT) deputy candidate in the October elections.

Local leaders of the political organizations that make up the Let’s Go Together for Brazil movement will also attend: PT, Brazilian Socialism (PSB), Brazilian Communism, Socialism and Freedom, Green Network, Solidarity and Sustainability.

On the day, the electoral duo also holds a scheduled meeting with community leaders.

Sources close to the former labor leader’s environment assert that the political meetings in Rio could launch a series of other regional solutions that are still pending for an alliance between the Labor Party and the PSB office.

The day before, Lula and Alcumene exchanged opinions with samba representatives and discussed national culture at Unidos da Tijuca in Rio.

They also spoke with deans of federal and state universities in the region.

For nearly a year, Lula has been traveling across regions of the country to talk to people and promote Let’s Go Together for Brazil, an unprecedented coalition of progressive parties supporting the electoral duo of the Workers’ Party.

After the national launch of the formula in São Paulo, on May 7, Lula and Alcémin held meetings to strengthen the union in Minas Gerais, Rio Grande do Sul, Rio Grande do Norte, Alagoas, Sergipe and Bahia.

They also outlined the government’s future plan. The document is at the stage of receiving suggestions from the entire community.

After two days in Cinelandia, the former president will arrive on Saturday in the municipality of Diadema, in the ABC industrial zone of São Paulo, which is also a traditional pole of demonstrations.

So far, Lula leads all opinion polls ahead of the upcoming elections in which far-right President Jair Bolsonaro intends to re-elect.

According to a survey conducted by Bank Genial with consulting firm Quaest, which was published on Wednesday, the former president maintains a steady advantage over the ex-military man.

Lula has 45 percent of the endorsement for the first round, which is a 14 percentage point advantage over Bolsonaro.

In the second round, the former mechanical director will win by 19 units, with 53 percent of the vote compared to 34 for the former army chief.
