According to the Minister of State for Economy, Dalva Ringot, the observatory will be an important tool for promoting the agenda of economic formation that has been promoted by the executive branch in recent years.

The official noted that IMF estimates, with data from 2018, indicated that 72.6 percent of Angola’s working population is employed informally, generating between 40 and 60 percent of GDP.

Ringot pointed out that the statistics also indicated that the sector then moved to between 43 and 64 billion dollars annually, which constitutes a valid reference for the state.

According to the specialist, the observatory should develop research on this subject, and propose measures that would reduce levels of informality, as well as support institutional monitoring and evaluation of state policies in this regard.

In this regard, he defended the importance of the new advisory body in order to strengthen the current Program for Reconversion of the Informal Economy (PREI) and thanked the cooperation of Angolan and external partners.

Among the collaborators, he mentioned the European Union, the United Nations Development Programme, the International Labor Organization and the United Nations Children’s Fund.

He said that the regular work of the entity will produce data and knowledge for the continuous improvement of the effectiveness of PREI, through the periodic generation of proposals and reports.

The organization will consist of 40 members and will allow the pooling of expert knowledge from 17 public entities, organizations representing the informal economy, civil society, academia and agencies of the United Nations system.
