Security forces deployed in Nuevo San Juan, Michoacan

An operation was deployed with dozens of state and federal forces on Monday with the goal of restoring security in Nuevo San Juan, the seat of the municipality of Barrangaricotero, a town that was in the hands of the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CJNG).

A convoy of elements from the General Secretariat of State Security, the Attorney General’s Office, the Army and the early National Guard extended to this community, stranded in the avocado area of the entity.

As the deployment approached the main entrance to Nuevo San Juan, gunmen backed by some residents set fire to a truck and taxi in an attempt to impede the advance of the authorities.

After a few minutes, various bodies entered the municipal headquarters and took control of security, including air traffic.

Videos posted by some residents showed at least twenty vehicles being shot at on their way to Tancitaro.

Other cells in the CJNG service, whose leadership is attributed to Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, “el Mencho”, stole more private and commercial units and set them on fire at four different points in the neighboring municipality of Uruapan.

Authorities have reported burning vehicles in the neighborhoods of La Mora and San Rafael, as well as Quirindavara and Chirangiran, in Uruapan, where CJNG also operates.

Later, armed men attacked the police at Uruapan municipality headquarters.

The officers responded to the aggression and were able, after a chase, to arrest three of the attackers, who were also involved in theft and burning of cars.
