UN Climate and Environment Campaign kicks off in Costa Rica

Announcing the campaign, which will run until the 30th of this month, the UN Coordinator in Costa Rica, Allegra Bayuci, stressed that this initiative will advance climate action to protect the planet and will also help people manage their environmental concerns.

With this proposal, we invite people to face daily challenges, small changes that everyone can easily achieve, but if added day by day, and person by person, they can have a huge impact on the well-being of the planet and Costa Rica, said Baiucci.

He stressed that “climate action and environmental protection cannot wait. We must act now without excuses and without delay.”

UN data reflects that if the world does not take measures to reduce risks now by 2030, there will be more than one disaster a day, while the State of the Global Climate 2021 report indicates that greenhouse gas concentrations, and sea level, smash ocean temperature and acidification numbers Standard again in 2021.

UN-Costa Rica notes that this Central American country is in one of the regions with the greatest impact of climate change, with Latin America expected to be one of the regions in the world where the impacts and impacts of climate change will be most intense.

These include heat waves, diminishing crop yields, wildfires, coral reef depletion, and extreme sea level events.

In addition, the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Climate Prediction Center predicts a strong probability of storms and hurricanes in 2022 that is well above average.

The campaign notes that small actions can make big changes to reduce the impact of climate change and achieve environmental conservation, for which a message will be issued every day through the social networks of the United Nations and its agencies.
