Meghan Markle and Prince Harry “isn’t a big story” without the royal family, according to a royal author who adds that “most Americans don’t care” about the American couple.
Cele Otnes claims that Netflix just wants to take advantage of the couple’s “inside connection” with the company for upcoming projects, but its appeal as a star has waned.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will return to the UK early next month for the Queen’s platinum jubilee celebrations and say they are “delighted and honored” to do so.
However, the Sussex family was omitted from the Trooping the Color balcony appearance by the Queen.

The king said only active members of the royal family would join her on the balcony of Buckingham Palace on the traditional RAF flight.
A statement from the palace said this was a decision taken “after careful consideration.”
It has not yet been confirmed which jubilee events Meghan and Harry will participate in, although there has been speculation that the couple may be accompanied by a film crew.
That’s because the couple are said to be filming a “home documentary series with the Sussexes” as part of a $100 million deal with Netlfix.

Sealy Otens, co-author of Royal Fever, said: ‘British ownership in consumer culture claims that the film crew can join the press audience who will be stationed in London to take the shots.
A marketing professor who specializes in the way the royal family brand claims this is because the streaming service recognizes Harry and Meghan “without the royal family branding, it’s not a big story.”
She said Netflix will want people to tune in, so she’ll be interested in capturing footage that shows her “inner relationship with royalty.”
She told Express.co.uk: “There’s not a whole lot we can do about having a Netflix camera crew on the grounds of Buckingham Palace with huge and incredibly powerful telephoto lenses.
“I mean, they can just stand in line for all the journalists.

“I think Netflix is moving really fast now because the Harry and Meghan story, without the brand of the royal family, isn’t a great story.
“So if we want to bring new footage to this Netflix that shows everyone wants to see, if we want to see something, that’s their inner connection with royalty.”
He went on to add that the Sussexes did not seem to fit in with what is considered the “world of celebrity” in the states in which they now live.
“I will say, you know, most Americans don’t care about them at all, in my opinion,” said Ms. Otunis.
“I mean, I don’t think we consider them celebrities because they really don’t do anything in the celebrity world here.”
