Moussa Sissoko believes Jose Mourinho is turning Tottenham into winners. Midfielder scored in 2-0 Carabao Cup semi-final victory over Brentford On Tuesday, like everyone at the club, they are determined to bring in their first title since 2008.
When the chairman of the board, Daniel Levy, appointed Mourinho in November 2019, the aim was to build on the work of Mauricio Pochettino and take the last step towards titles. There is at least one noticeable difference between managers. While Pochettino has made it clear that the Domestic Cups are somewhat behind the Premier League and Champions League in terms of priorities, Mourinho is obsessed with chasing everything with equal rigor.
Mourinho has a special passion for the League Cup, having won it four times – the same number as Brian Clough and Sir Alex Ferguson. No manager has won the title more, and Mourinho knows how being successful in competition can strengthen the team’s mentality. Sissoko says Tottenham should finish what they started and win the final on April 25th.
“Does Jose make us winners?” Sissoko said, “Yes, we can say that.” We know what coach Jose is and what he’s done in the past. I think the president brought him here to win titles and he tried to bring that mentality to the team. I wouldn’t say we’ve never had it before with the old manager but the team works a lot on it and they do their best every day. Now it’s good for us to reach the final and now we have to win it.
“Time to win the title. For many years, we lost that kind of opportunity and now we want to seize it. We are still in the race for the league, we have the other cup we are playing and also the European League, and there are a lot of things to do with the team this season. Let’s believe it.” On our own, let’s keep fighting and let’s try to win every match and see what we can do. “
Sissoko’s goal against Brentford was his first since December 2019. “I would like to score more goals and provide more assists, but it depends on the system we are playing,” he said. “Against Brentford, I was playing number 6 without the ball but with the ball, I was higher – another number 8 with Tangwe [Ndombele].
“That’s why I can be on top and do it when [Sergio] Regilon occasional for me and scored. It is easier to score when I enter the penalty area than to play as number 6. “
