Harada Kazuhira, Executive Director and General Manager, Power Projects Division, Sumitomo Electric, He stated: “We are pleased to work with our partner Jan de Nul to build the Greenlink between Ireland and the UK. This electrical link will form an important part of the infrastructure to achieve net zero emissions.”
for this part, Wouter Vermeersch, Director of Submarine Cables at Jan De Nul Group, He added: “We are honored to be working with Sumitomo Electric to create this important grid link between Ireland and the UK. Jan De Nul and Sumitomo Electric have been developing the installation solution in close collaboration over the past two years and are now ready to be fully involved in the actual implementation of it. “
Offshore installation campaigns will take place in 2023 and 2024. Jan De Nul’s cable laying ship, Connector, will install undersea cables that will mostly be buried to the sea floor. When the sea floor does not allow cable burial, the cables will be protected by installing rock or concrete cushions on top of the cables.
Greenlink is an electric conductor for underground and submarine electricity that connects the energy markets of Ireland and Great Britain, and is scheduled to enter service in 2024.
