Unveiling the cities that witnessed the largest increase in house prices in 2020 | UK News

Islington in North London experienced the fastest growth in house prices in 2020, with average properties rising 13.4% to £ 727,922.

Figures from Halifax also show, at the other end of the scale, that the average home price in Paisley, West Glasgow, fell 1.7% to £ 138,036.

Outside of London, the largest mover was Leeds – the second fastest rise in the country, up 11.3%, at an average of £ 247,116 – and Wolverhampton was in fourth place, up 9.5%, with an average of £ 217,837.

“Like a lot of other things in 2020, it has been difficult to predict which areas will see the most movement in average home prices this year,” said Russell Galle, Managing Director, Halifax.

For example, depending on the region, you can look at the biggest rise in prices or the biggest fall in the capital.

Home prices have jumped by more than 11% in the great cosmopolitan city of Leeds in Yorkshire and around 10% in Wolverhampton in the heart of Black Country.

“The Other North, Doncaster and Inverness have also seen healthy growth, and while the overall trend in house prices this year has been bullish, anyone looking to buy in Paisley, Hackney or Aberdeen will find that homes cost slightly less than last year.”

Greater London ranked nine of the top 20 places to hike home prices – Croydon saw a 10.9% increase to £ 397,538, compared to an increase of just 1% the year before; Hounslow was ranked fifth, up 9.1%, with an average of £ 523,659.

But some other areas of London saw average prices drop – the price of Hackney homes fell by an average of 1.5%, the second largest after Paisley.

Elsewhere in Scotland, home prices in Glasgow fell 1.7%, while Aberdeen and Falkirk also saw declines – down 1.4% and 0.8%, respectively.

The capital, Edinburgh, saw house prices rise 6% at an average price of £ 274,246, and Inverness was the biggest engine in Scotland – up 8.1% to £ 195534 on average.
