Russia has warned that Kyiv’s new peace deal proposal this week is a far cry from the main provisions both countries laid out at the March 29 Istanbul meeting.
According to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, the new document clearly reflects the departure from the most important negotiation points in that Turkish city, which was approved by his signature by the head of the Ukrainian government delegation.
However, he stressed that Moscow will remain in the negotiation process with the same positions and requirements that it has set since the start of the dialogue, despite all provocations.
The Russian Foreign Minister said that his country does not rule out that the Ukrainian authorities will try to impose new conditions, but he made it clear that such a scenario is unacceptable to his country.
“It is possible that the Ukrainian side in the next round will demand the withdrawal of forces and the compilation of new preconditions. This plan is understandable, but it is not acceptable.”
He also drew attention to Kyiv’s inability to negotiate, denouncing “the policy of delaying, and even undermining, talks, and moving away from the agreements reached.”
According to the head of Russian diplomacy, such facts show that Kyiv is under the control of Washington and its allies, which pushes the Ukrainian President, Vladimir Zelensky, to continue the fight.
Moscow also warned against the Kyiv authorities’ refusal to discuss the disarmament and disarmament of Ukraine and stressed that such a decision would not contribute to the negotiation process.
Earlier this week, the Ukrainian president announced that his country would continue negotiations with Moscow, but stressed that he would not discuss disarmament and disarmament in his country, which are the conditions demanded by Russia to end military actions.
For political analysts, the recent killings of civilians in the Ukrainian city of Bucha, and complaints about the alleged authorship of Russian soldiers, contributed to the stalemate in consultations between the parties, although Moscow denied their connection to the events.
The Russian Ministry of Defense considered the crimes a provocation and denounced that it was another scene for the media, as happened in Mariupol with the maternity hospital, as well as in other cities.
For his part, the Russian Foreign Minister described this act as a “false attack” in which Ukraine and the West tried to demonize the Russian army and ignite the dialogue between the two countries.
In his opinion, whenever there is reason in the negotiations between Moscow and Kiev to expect “some progress, even modest”, conditions arise that impede them.
