If the initial foreign direct investment obtained in the period from January to December 2021 is compared with the preliminary figures reported for the same period in 2020 (29 thousand and 79.4 million dollars), an increase of 8.7 percent is observed.

  • By country of origin: United States 47.5%; Spain 13.7 percent; Canada 6.5 percent; UK 5.7 per cent; Germany 5.2 percent; Japan contributed 5.0 percent, and other countries contributed the remaining 16.4 percent.

The methodology for determining FDI is based on international standards, contained in the International Monetary Fund’s Balance of Payments Manual (IMF) and in the OECD FDI Framework Definition.
