London, Dec. 30 (EFE). – The United Kingdom continues to its maximum levels of coronavirus infections after recording 189,213 others in the past 24 hours, an increase of 45.1% from last week, according to data released today by the British Ministry of Health.
The number released today comes after a positive 183,037 computed on Wednesday and consolidates the upside driven by the omicron variant majority already, which is more transmissible, although believed to be less risky, than other viruses.
According to this data, in the past 24 hours, there have been 332 additional deaths due to Covid-19, which is 10.6% less than seven days ago, bringing the total to 172,657 since the beginning of the epidemic.
The most recent data for hospital admissions across the country is from December 24, when 1,152 were registered, up 32.3% from the previous week.
However, the National Health Service (NHS, in English) in England today reported that the total number of people hospitalized with coronavirus in this region is, so far, at 11,452, up 61% from seven days ago, the highest number since Last February, when it peaked at 34336.
The ministry indicated that 82.4% of the population over the age of 12 had received the full two-dose vaccination schedule in the UK, and 58.3% had received a booster dose.
The British government confirmed it was working to get more antigen and PCR tests, before supply shortages occurred mainly in Scotland and England.
In parallel, the National Health Service has begun enabling eight temporary “hospitals” in the English region, the most populous, to cope with a “potential income wave” in the coming weeks, health authorities indicated.
The government of Conservative Prime Minister Boris Johnson is expected to decide in the coming days whether it intends to increase social restrictions in England, where there are fewer than those in other parts of the UK. EFE
