Quito, November 26 (EFE). – 11 Ecuadorean and international films, 5 feature films and 6 short films are participating in the sixth edition of the ECOador Environmental Festival, which begins around Friday and seeks to warn of global threats to the environment.

The new edition of ECOador, the only eco-themed festival in the Andean country, brings together in its new edition works from Ecuador, Peru, Italy, Belgium, the United Kingdom and the United States, which have been presented at many festivals around the world.

Paula Guevara, who specializes in audiovisual communication at the festival, explained to Efe that the exhibition aims to create a virtual area to defend the environment through the most pressing themes which fall into four categories.

Under “Global Threats”, for example, stands out “El roar del Marañón” (Peru) or “La Industria del fuego” (Ecuador), as they depict the state of Amazonian communities in the face of deforestation and extraction.

Endangered species include “On the Wild Side” (Italy) and “Silent Forest” (USA), the latter highlighting the fight against elephant poaching in Africa.

Tropical forests are another category in which the “hidden treasure of Ecuador” (USA) is revealed.

As a background, the organizers want to emphasize the idea of contributing to eco-culture, but above all, that through action, “people can join these groups and visit places where there is sustainable tourism,” assures Guevara.
