Florida lawmakers introduce bills to honor victims of communism (video)

Florida State Representatives announced the introduction of two bills honoring the more than 100 million victims of communism around the world, at a memorial event held Sunday, November 7, at the .2506 Brigade Museum, in Miami.

If approved and signed by Governor Ron DeSantis during the upcoming 2022 legislative session, every November 7th in the state will be recognized as “Victims of Communism Day,” and Florida students, as part of the curriculum, will receive classes on “the atrocities of communism and the stories of its victims.” in Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua, China, North Korea and the Soviet Union.”

Republican Senator Manny Diaz Jr., who represents Florida’s 36th district, told Radio Martí that this measure is “very important for our society and victims of ‘totalitarian regimes’ and also for the future. So that our students understand the dangers of communism, the facts, so that history does not repeat itself.”

Another legislator promoting the bill, State Representative Tom Fabricio, highlighted the importance of understanding future generations of Florida’s “why our parents and grandparents left communist countries, what they were looking for here and how they were victims there (…), and how we will prevent that from happening.” Here, in this country.”
