Oasis has shared a new preview of their documentary ‘Knebworth 1996’, which depicts their historic show in Knebworth Park in England 25 years ago. This time it’s about the “Champagne Supernova” release video they made for that occasion. You can watch it below as the movie premiered in theaters last week, then in November it will be released in Blu-ray and DVD formats.
The film was directed by Jake Scott, who directed videos for the band, as well as the Rolling Stones, REM, U2, The Verve, and many more. The July 13 announcement states that the film was “told entirely at the time through the eyes of the fans who were there, and built from extensive, never-before-seen archival footage of the concert and behind the scenes., with additional interviews with the concert’s band and concert organizers.”
The clip above for “Live Forever” includes comments from Noel Gallagher. “We were a great band the night before we wrote ‘Live Forever,’ but it was indie music,” he says. “The day after we wrote ‘Live Forever,’ we were going to be the biggest band in the world. I knew. I knew enough about music… I knew enough about songs to know that this wasn’t indie music, it was a great song.”
The record for the Oasis was set in two nights in Knebworth on August 10-11, 1996, as more than a quarter of a million music fans from around the world gathered in Knebworth Park, Hertfordshire, to witness the legendary sets. Tickets went on sale on May 11, 1996. During the night, queues formed in front of record stores and box offices, and fans from all over the world spent their day on their landlines trying to connect with the ever-busy reservation lines. All tickets sold out in less than 24 hours, breaking all UK box office records in the process. Organizers calculated that the band could sell two or three times as many tickets. It is said that more than 2% of the UK population has tried to buy tickets.
