Interview with Enrique del Pozo

He returned to Spain in love but was surprised that Rossio Carrasco had not thanked him for his defense in 20 years.

Enrique del Pozo (Madrid, 64) is back in Spain. Having spent the past ten years in Italy, where he made his film debut, he is back in an excellent personal and professional moment. Italy has always been his second home, with which he has been associated since he was 16, and with the United Kingdom, the place where he was formed. There he developed professional projects of all kinds, from documentaries to building an all-encompassing gaming brand. He also managed to meet some of his old friends, such as the late Raffaella Cara and was the screenwriter for two documentaries. The one who was a member of the duo Enrique y Ana (‘Coco gua gua’, ‘Amigo Félix’…), is “tired” of being cocky about this subject 40 years later and would rather not talk about it. Now he’s back in Spain with different ideas and purposes under his arm.

Last May, he joined Telecinco’s “Viva la vida” as a collaborator, benefiting from the loss of paparazzi Diego Arrabal. “I feel very happy in the programme, I have to thank the team, I am very satisfied. He came with great fear, because ten years of not being on TV is risky, and he can do it well or badly,” explains Del Pozo. In his first big screen appearance, he decided to tackle his own life issues and for the first time dared talk about his relationship With bodybuilder Ruben Sanchez Montesinos (39), 25 years younger than him. “I am so in love and I say it out loud because out of love, he is the first athlete to come out as gay. He says he wants to help other athletes or people on the street so they don’t feel insulted for being gay.

Antonio David attacks

The happiness that del Pozo gives today contrasts with the difficult time when he decided to leave for Italy, which was marked by Antonio David Flores’ constant attacks against him, while del Pozo was collaborating with Crónicas Marcianas. He was charged with sexual assault in the magazine “Dígame” for which the former Civil Guard worked. “I defended Rossio Carrasco for free, and that meant attacks, defamation and threats from her ex-girlfriend and the mafia environment in which she lived. Atrocities were said about me, I had a stronger position for being a public figure, but that ruined my mother and that stayed deep inside me. I was hoping he’d ask for forgiveness, but no,” del Pozo recalls.

However, he asserts that his intention is not far from taking revenge on Antonio David or returning to the topic, but he is surprised by the position taken by Campos (mother and daughters), who suffered in the first person the same thing that he thought they would be sympathetic to, but quite the opposite. “I told them that my undetermined loyalty has an expiration date, for three months I revealed what happened to me, and they were involved in it, because I defended them when they were defamed. And they never had sympathy, so I will not be silent, who loves it well and who does not, well be patient. “The worst thing in life is defending someone out of love and for free,” says Del Pozo.

He was also not appreciated by Rossio Carrasco, although he supports documentaries. “I did a good job of making the documentary, but the mistake may have been silent for too long. However, it gives me the feeling that all this is fair, yes, but it is cheap work, and it saddens me, because Rocío Jurado was never put up for sale.”

professional projects

Del Pozo took advantage of these years to enter the world of documentaries. His first work, “The Pink Wall,” presented in 2013, talks about the historical memory of gays, and the second, in 2018, “The Man Behind the Woman,” tells the story of one of his fans, whom he met. Florida Park Room in Madrid and met her again at the Monte Carlo Film Festival.

Del Pozo returned to Spain in 2020 with the goal of shooting a movie with an Italian director, “where he was co-starring” with Jeremy Irons. “The epidemic has arrived and the project has stopped. But then Montse Alcoberro (‘Acacias 38’) appeared telling me either she was coming to Spain or she was going to look for me in Italy, and I’ve already stayed in Barcelona for a year.”

Del Pozo is now making a third documentary about defending mature actresses. “I am also waiting for confirmation of the film, which has been delayed due to the epidemic, I am preparing an album for January and there is another project of the series for the German Netflix channel, and of course I want to continue working on “Viva la Vida”.

This time in Italy helped him realize that Spain “does not appreciate artists who succeed outside its borders”. “We are invisible and also, one thing happens, that there are people who, if they don’t have minutes on screen, seem to be dead and not exist, and there is no life outside of TV; I never stop working, so when they ask me what my profession is, I would like to I say my profession is to be happy,” concludes del Pozo.
