1906 – Eugene Laust. French inventor Eugene Laust, jointly with Australian Robert Haines and Britain’s John Blitts, has filed at the UK Patent Office in London a patent for a sound film procedure, the first step towards a new era of cinema. The patent was granted in 1907.
1959 – GUSTAVO CERATI Born in Buenos Aires, singer-songwriter, composer and record producer Gustavo Adrien Cerati is the leader of the rock band Soda Stereo, who is considered one of the most influential rock musicians in Latin America. He has won 19 Latin Grammy Awards and three Gardel de Oro Awards.
1965 Sergio Vigil: Born in Buenos Aires, former field hockey player and coach Sergio Vigil won a bronze medal at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games as coach of Argentina’s Las Leonas. He also ran the Argentine men’s hockey team.
1967 – ENRIQUE BUNBURY. Singer and composer Enrique Banbury (Enrique Ortiz de Landszurri Isardoy), the leader of the rock band Hroes del Silencio and one of Spain’s most influential musicians, was born in the Spanish city of Zaragoza.
1989 – Rasoula Korber. Born in Sant Pere de Villamagor (Barcelona, Spain), Spanish actress Rosa Corber Delgado is best known for playing the character “Tokyo” in the hit broadcast series La Casa de Papel. She has also starred in the TV series Physics or Chemistry and The Embassy.
1996 – Pablo Aimar. At the age of 16, attacking midfielder Pablo Caesar Aymar made his first-team debut in River Plate, in a 1-0 loss to Colin de Santa Fe as a visitor. “The Clown” Aymar, who starred for Spain’s Valencia and Zaragoza among other teams, was a champion with Argentina’s Under-20 team at the 1997 World Cup in Malaysia.
2007 – Roberto Maidana. At the age of 79, journalist and broadcaster Roberto Maidana, successful news presenter on Channel 13 and Public Television and winner of the 1987 Connex Award, has died in Buenos Aires.
2014 – Robin Williams. American comedian Robin Williams, winner of an Academy Award, five Golden Globe Awards, two Emmy Awards and three Grammy Awards, has passed away in Paradise (California, USA) at the age of 63. He gained fame for his starring role in Good Morning Vietnam!.
2019 Primary elections. The presidential formula of the Todos Front, formed by Alberto Fernández and Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, won the mandatory and simultaneous primary open stage (PASO) with 49.49% of the vote.
2021 Feeding day. Nutrition Day is celebrated to commemorate the year 1887 in which physician Pedro Escudero, founder and director of the National Institute of Nutrition, was born. He is considered the “Father of Nutrition in America”.
