2nd PISAC COVID-19 Symposium Meeting

This was the second episode of the cycle of seminars organized by the National Agency for the Promotion of Research, Technological Development and Innovation (R + D + i Agency) with the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, the Council of Deans and Deans of Colleges of Social Sciences and Humanities (CODESOC) and the University Policies Secretariat of the Ministry of Education.

The opening of the second meeting was attended by the President of the Agency for Research and Development, Fernando Pierano. In his presentation, Pierano noted: “In times of pandemic, this agency has taken on the challenge of explaining what promotion should be like in times of emergency and crisis and also of the role of the social sciences in our system of science, technology and innovation to generate new tools”.

Elizabeth Gómez Alcorta highlighted that the crisis triggered by the pandemic has deepened gender inequality associated with care and employment tasks and the feminization of poverty. “Thinking about Argentine society in the post-pandemic stage means strengthening the capabilities of the state so that it is in the service of a public policy aimed at building a society with more equality, rights and opportunities”, Gomez Alcorta said in relation to the PISAC COVID-19 call.

For her part, Cecilia Soliman reviewed the history of PISAC calls and how on this occasion they got a scale they never had before. As the official confirmed: “Advocacy has the logic of thinking about the demands that exist in society for contribution, from the social sciences, and knowledge to the formation, design and evaluation of public policies.”

At the end of the first part of the event, a space was opened for the research teams to present, analyze and discuss the projects envisaged under the ‘Care Tasks and Gender Relations’ axis. This second was introduced by Mario Piccini, Vice President of Scientific Affairs at CONICET and member of this organization’s board of directors in the social sciences and humanities since 2019 and Academic Secretary of the National University of Hurlingham, Lizzie Wanger. .

The research projects presented were “Nursing and occupational health care during the COVID 19 pandemic and beyond (Argentina, 20th and 21st centuries)” and “Strategies of care in urban and rural poverty contexts in Argentina after the Covid-19 epidemic” directed by Carina Ramaciotti and Liliana Bellin Madrid on straight.

What is a PISAC COVID-19 call?

The PISAC COVID-19 Call is a call organized by Agency I + D + ia for syndicate research projects in the social sciences and humanities to generate new knowledge focused on the study of Argentine society in the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond. . The call was made by the agency R+D+ia through the Fund for Scientific and Technological Research (FONCYT).

In total, 19 proposals were selected whose progress, results and reflections will be presented by researchers responsible for the projects during the development of the six seminars.
