Aquaculture research is the core of the ICBAS-UP . Doctoral Program in Animal Sciences

The Portuguese Academy, in collaboration with leading aquaculture companies, promotes a doctoral program in animal sciences that seeks to promote advanced training and achieve high levels of excellence in research.

Those interested will be able to participate free of charge in the workshop promoted by the Abel Salazar Institute of Biomedical Sciences (ICBAS) of the University of Porto for the program and can be followed in person and virtually. The celebration is scheduled for September 17, 2021 and it is necessary to pre-register.

The program is designed, according to the coordinators, under the supervision of researchers associated with research institutions, including laboratories associated with national and international merit recognized in various animal science disciplines.

As host academic institutions, the Abel Salazar Institute of Biomedical Sciences (ICBAS) of the University of Porto stands out, recognized at the European level for its many researches conducted in the field of aquaculture sciences and the production of animals safe for human consumption. healthy.

Other institutions include the Interdisciplinary Center for Marine and Environmental Research (CIIMAR), also affiliated with the University of Porto; and Requimte, Chemistry and Technology Network, a Portuguese non-profit scientific organization.

The SANFEED (Sustainable Animal Nutrition and Feeding) program is part of this animal science program. This program creates a unique collaboration between the Academy and the Company. It is coordinated by ICBAS-UP and the following companies participate as industrial partners with a strong activity in innovation: AGROS, ALGAPLUS, ALLMICROALGAE, ALLTECH ADITIVOS, CAVC, ADM PORTUGAL, PREMIX, SEA8, SENSE TEST, SOJA DE PORTUGAL and SPAROS.

This year’s edition includes a high-quality program with two plenary lectures with renowned experts and a round table focusing on the theme of One Health. This program aims to address issues that include the sustainable production of animal feed, making use of innovative production techniques and safe alternatives, increasing efficiency and protecting the environment; As well as the interactions that arise between the pathogen and the host in aquaculture, in an attempt to find new ways to combat it.
