Cuban Foreign Minister Commemorates the 48th Anniversary of CARICOM – Prensa Latina

In a message posted on Twitter, the Minister of Foreign Relations acknowledged the need to strengthen alliances in the region “to meet common goals and challenges.”

On July 4 every year, Caricom celebrates its day in honor of the signing of the Treaty of Chaguaramas, and the 20th anniversary of the signing of that treaty, which was revised on July 5.

According to its website, the document, approved in Trinidad and Tobago in 1973, and updated in 2001 in Nassau, Bahamas, laid the foundations for the CARICOM.

These dates coincide with the 42nd session of the Caricom Ordinary Conference of Heads of Government, scheduled for July 5 and 6, chaired by the Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, Gaston Brown.

The official website acknowledges that the meeting should review the achievements, setbacks and failures of the embargo mainly in the past two decades.

However, other pressing issues call for consideration of vaccine shortages to deal with Covid-19, concerns about new strains, and economic constraints exacerbated by natural disasters.

The Caribbean group consists of Antigua and Barbuda, the Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Montserrat, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago. .
