The foreign ministers of the United States and Mexico met to discuss immigration

The Minister of Foreign Relations of Mexico, Marcelo Ebrard, and the Secretary of State of the United States (USA), Anthony Blinken, met on June 2 in Costa Rica to discuss the issue of immigration.

“Today in San Jose, Costa Rica, within the framework of the CICA Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, a bilateral meeting was held between Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard and his American counterpart Anthony Blinken. The meeting, chaired by Ministers Ebrard and Blinken, followed the high-level dialogue between The administrations of Presidents Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador and Joseph Biden spoke of the two governments’ shared vision regarding the structural causes of immigration.

For his part, Minister Blinken said: “We are committed to finding collaborative solutions to the hemispheric’s security and irregular migration challenges. Mexico is an essential partner and I am pleased to speak with the Minister of Foreign Relations, Marcelo Ebrard, about our efforts to create a safer and more prosperous region.”

The discussion revolved around important issues of the bilateral relationship that will be deepened in the upcoming meeting of the Government of Mexico with the US Vice President, Kamala Harris.

At the conclusion of the committee’s work, the two ministers affirmed the joint work of both countries to promote economic development in Central America, towards orderly, safe and regular migration in the region, according to the Mexican Foreign Ministry.

Blinken in Costa Rica as part of the Joe Biden government’s first international tour. There, the Minister of Foreign Affairs informed the President of Costa Rica, Carlos Alvarado, that the Central American country will be included in the list of countries to which the United States will donate 80 million vaccines against the Coronavirus (COVID-19).
