2022 was the hottest year on record in the UK

London. – 2022 was the hottest year on record in the UK, beating the annual average of 10 degrees, the Met Office (MET) reported Thursday.

For the 12 months last year, the average temperature was 10.03 degrees, which surpasses the previous record of 9.88 degrees set in 2014, and means that 15 of the country’s 20 warmest years on record were this century.

The four British countries set new records in 2022. The average temperature in England was 10.94 degrees, followed by Wales with 10.23 degrees; Northern Ireland, 9.85 degrees, and Scotland, 8.50 degrees.

Mark McCarthy, head of the Met Office’s National Climate Information Centre, said: “The UK’s passing of an average annual temperature of 10°C is a fascinating moment in the history of our climate.”

He added: “From the observational record it is clear that human-caused global warming is already affecting the climate in the UK.”

Last July, the United Kingdom declared a state of emergency due to high temperatures, which reached 40.3 degrees for the first time. EFEgreen
